HEARING ASSESSMENT PROGRAM - EARLY EARS

Hearing Australia is currently facilitating the roll out of the Hearing Assessment Program- Early Ears (HAPEE) to the Emerald region. The HAPEE program provides outreach hearing assessments to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children aged 0-5 years.

Although most children have their hearing screened at birth, it is uncommon that parents will follow this up further prior to starting school. Hearing loss can lead to behavioural difficulties as well as speech and language difficulties later on in life. The HAPEE program is free.

This program is currently being offered from the Emerald Hospital bi-monthly. Bookings can be made directly by contacting the team at Emerald Hospital via EmeraldReception@health.qld.gov.au . This program provides children with a free diagnostic hearing assessment at no cost. In the event ENT referral is required, they will refer families back to their GP for follow up. Should a young person require hearing aids, these will be provided by Hearing Australia centre at no charge.
