The Parliamentary Committee for Agriculture and the Environment announced a series of reviews into the Queensland Government’s drought assistance measures in parliament last Friday (July 17, 2015).
Member for Gregory Lachlan Millar is encouraging people to have their say by making a submission.
“The first review will be into the Drought Review Assistance Scheme administered by DAF and public submissions will be accepted until August 28, 2015,” said Mr Millar.
“The Committee Chair told Parliament that the committee will be checking to see that the measures are well-designed, provide the best possible assistance and give good value for money to the Queensland taxpayer.
“Sadly in Gregory we have plenty of experience with drought and drought assistance and I urge people to give the committee the benefit of that experience.”
Mr Millar says the review was announced in the same week that Labor’s budget showed they will be cutting QRAA’s staff by ten percent.
“These are the hard working public servants who process disaster relief for Queenslanders so, in their hour of need, Queenslanders will be waiting longer to receive financial assistance,” he said.
