Multisport Facility in Quilpie

  • Quilpie Council wins $300,000 state government grant
  • Funds will deliver a multi-sport facility for Quilpie Shire

Quilpie Shire Residents will enjoy a multi-purpose sports facility with a covered grandstand and two-bay cricket practice nets following the success of Quilpie Shire Council in receiving more than $300,000 from the state government under the second round of the Get Playing Plus grant program.

Congratulating the councillors on their initiative, local member Lachlan Millar said the funding would allow Quilpie Shire residents to enjoy a range of sports spreading the benefits of the funding across the community.

“Sports are central to our way of life in country Queensland. You can see what an outsize contribution country kids make at the elite level and I believe that is because they experience sports as a community pastime with everyone involved,” he said.

Mr Millar said the LNP’s Get Playing funding has proved so successful that the current State Government has continued to expand the program.

“The LNP designed this funding as a way of ensuring rural and regional Queenslanders can get a fair go in terms of sports funding as well as the more populated parts of the State. It is a relief to see that it has been left in place and that our Council has been able to take advantage of this,” he said.
