Planning should begin now to re-open Western Queensland to self-drive tourists from southern states, according to the Member for Gregory, Lachlan Millar MP.

If the Federal Government decides to bail out Virgin Australia with taxpayers’ money, there must be strict guarantees of lower airfares for rural and regional Queensland.

LNP Member for Gregory in Central-Western Queensland Lachlan Millar said for too long airlines like Virgin have been using rural flight routes to line their pockets at the expense of rural and regional Queenslanders.

With Queensland enduring devastating back to back bushfire seasons, serious concerns have been raised over the rollout of new rural fire trucks promised by the Palaszczuk Labor Government.

Queensland needs to take an honest and intelligent look at its poor bushfire hazard reduction regime, according to LNP Shadow Minister for Fire, Emergency Services and Volunteers, Lachlan Millar said in Queensland Parliament yesterday.

Apparently, it stretches all the way from Windorah Qld to Parramatta NSW.

Member for Gregory Lachlan Millar told Queensland Parliament this week about a heart attack that happened on Boxing Day, 2019 to a couple on a driving tour in one of outback Queensland’s most remote locations.

Changes to kindergarten funding for vulnerable children and children with additional needs were announced on August 1, 2019 and are completely unacceptable, according to Member for Gregory, Lachlan Millar MP.

“It is unheard of to cut funding two-thirds of the way through a school year. To do so in a way that leaves community kindies to raise tens of thousands of dollars to cover the shortfall or to exclude the children most needing their service is simply disgusting,” said Mr Millar.

Kindergartens in the Central Highlands were informed last week that the Queensland Government had changed the basis on which eligible children receive funding under the Kindergaten Inclusion Subsidy Scheme (KISS).

In a surprise decision KISS funding was changed from August 1, 2019 from a child-centred model to a capped “service” model.

Member for Gregory Lachlan Millar MP has lashed out at the Palaszczuk Government for callously disregarding the plight of remote children whose families are struggling to keep them at boarding school due to the impact of drought and floods.

Mr Millar had asked Minister Grace Grace in a Question on Notice to increase the living away from home allowances paid to remote families to help fund the education of children who have no school to attend.

“Let’s be clear. This is only paid to those families who live to far from a school that they physically cannot attend school. It has always been an equity measure to ensure equal access to education for every Queensland child,” said Mr Millar.
